Australian Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon

Pure art is the new form of encapsulating wine by Penfolds, who released a limited edition glass called Ampoule, which contains 2004 Kalimna Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon, a very rare and special wine. There are only twelve hand-made vessels of the Ampoule, which are all individually numbered. Penfolds is famous for its fine wine, its South Australian heritage and their craftsmanship. The Ampoule also provides a memorable sensory experience, since each opening of the bottle has a ceremony held for the owner. The bottle is opened with a specially designed sterling silver and tungsten scribe-snap, and afterwards, the wine is prepared by the winemaker, with a sterling silver tastevin. The Ampoule glass sculpture was designed by glass artist Nick Mount, as a conical and elongated plumb-bob made with transparent grey glass and a ruby red “cotton-reel” top, suspended in a bespoke Jarrah cabinet. The ampoule was designed as an ideal wine environment by scientific glassblower Ray Leake.
