Harry Winston’s Opus XI
Harry Winston’s new watch, the Opus XI, is a true masterpiece. The dial might seem complicated to understand at first, but once you understand how it works, this elegant timepiece will marvel anyone.
Harry Winston’s Opus series features unconventional watches designed by independent watchmakers. The Opus XI was designed by Denis Giguet. What makes this piece unconventional? Every hour, during two to three seconds, the hour display disintegrates, generating a complete disarray to then return to original state for the rest of the hour.
The movement was designed after the tradition of old pocket watches, and can be admired through a sapphire caseback. More offbeat features? The movement’s gear train ends in the indication, and it consists of two rotating disks in a cylindrical chamber. The hour display is powered by its own barrel, and as the movement’s barrel unwinds, it supplies energy for the hour display barrel. This is why every hour, the display explodes into motion and disintegrates the old hour numeral to show the new time.
