Maharaja of Mysore’s 1825 State Carriage is now up for auction

A horse drawn carriage that was owned by Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV, the Mysore's Maharaja, will be auctioned in Great Britain on November 24th. This rare carriage was used exclusively by the royal family of Mysore and European Royalty.

He is known to be one of the most celebrated rulers among the Indian States and one of the wealthiest men in the world during the 1930's, having a personal fortune worth $400 million ($56 billion our time).

The Maharaja of Mysore’s 1825 State Carriage is in excellent condition, and because of its exquisit design and detailing, it is a masterpiece and a work of art of British origin. It is thought that it was last used in the 1927 Chamundi Religious Festival. The olive green carriage boasts 16 drop-down windows, panels and shutters for privacy, and is embellished with delicate meander boarders, heraldic and floral motifs and the family coat of arms. The interior is upholstered in beige damask, the roof has decorative paintwork, and the exterior houses 2-seats for the usage of servants and courtiers.
