The 54 Year Old Bottle No. 1, an exceptionally rare Bowmore 1957 fetched $160,000 at the Bowmore Distillery on Islay in an auction. All proceeds will benefit Swedish charities.
It is the oldest Bowmore whisky, as well as the rarest and oldest single malt ever released. It matured in the finest oak No. 1 Vaults from 1957 until 2011 in Scotland. The cask was examined every six months to ensure taste and quality of the Scotch. Only twelve bottles of Bowmore 1957 exist.
The new owner wil enjoy of a true piece of art, a hand-blown platinum-encrusted decanter, sculpted by Nichola Burns and Brodie Nairn, two of the world’s most recognized glass artists. The glass is decorated with platinum flecks and a hand-engraved neck collar that showcases the spirit’s strength and the bottle number. The platinum stopper was crafted by hand by Hamilton & Inches.
