The Birkin bag is one of the most expensive and coveted handbags in the world, with a long waiting list of prospective owners waiting to be able to get their hands on one as it is considered to be a sign of wealth. A beautiful black crocodile Birkin was recently sold at the Holiday Handbags & Luxury Accessories Sale by Heritage Auctions for $122,500 and a smaller gold and diamond Birkin fetched $203,150, a new record for any Birkin handbag offered in an auction. Hermès designs were notably the most coveted at the event and the largest bag collection offered. Other successful bids were a violet Porosus Crocodile Birkin sold at $74,500, a Rouge H Caiman Crocodile Sellier Kelly Bag that fetched $62,500, a Gucci yellow gold & diamond minaudiere for $40,000, a Van Cleef & Arpels’ 18K yellow gold & diamond evening bag that obtained $27,500, a Chanell Matte Jaune yellow crocodile jumbo flap bag for $20,000 and a Kieselstein Cord black crocodile trophy bag sold for $13,125.
