Famed jeweler Harry Winston has just recently purchased a flawless 101.73 pear-shaped diamond at a record breaking price of $26.7 U.S. Dollars, at an auction in Geneva.
It took 21 months to polish the diamond and it is considered to be the largest D-colored diamond to ever be auctioned. Its special characteristics like its color, shape and perfect cuts make it an “object d’art” according to Rahul Kadakia, head of Jewelry at Christie’s.
The diamond is said to have been found in Botswana, in a Jwaneng mine, which is property of De Beers.
